# Contributors View | Individual Engineer Performance Lens

The Contributors view gives engineering managers an individual-level lens on each engineer’s activity, performance, and collaboration patterns. It’s designed for 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations.

## Overview

Contributors pulls real GitHub data — commits, PR cycle times, reviews, and code churn — and presents them as a personalized activity breakdown for each engineer.

## What You’ll See

### Contributor Summary

At the top of the page, you’ll see a **Profile Card** showing the engineer’s:

- Name, avatar, and GitHub handle
- Total PRs opened and merged
- Unique repositories contributed to

### Highlights

Compact stat cards surface the most relevant signals:

- **Coding Days** — number of unique days with at least one commit or PR activity
- **Average Cycle Time** — this engineer’s personal average time from first commit to merge
- **Review Participation** — how many PRs they reviewed vs. opened

### Efficiency Score

The **Efficiency Score** is a composite metric showing how streamlined an engineer’s delivery workflow is. It factors in cycle time, reworks, and review response time.

- High score → fast, clean delivery with minimal back-and-forth
- Lower score → may indicate PRs getting stuck in review or high churn

### Team Performance

Situates the engineer relative to their team:

- Side-by-side comparison with team averages for key metrics
- Useful for identifying whether an individual is above or below the team baseline

### AI Insight Integration

Click **⚡ AI Insight** to generate a personalized coaching summary for this engineer. It covers:

- Weekly or monthly performance trends
- What’s going well (high coding days, fast reviews)
- What to focus on (reducing large PR sizes, improving review participation)
- Specific actionable suggestions

## Metrics & Trends

### Average PR Cycle Time

How long this engineer’s PRs take from first commit to merge, on average. Compare against team median to identify outliers.

### Coding Days

Number of days in the selected period with at least one GitHub activity (commit, PR, review, comment). Useful for tracking sustained engagement.

### Total Lines Added / Deleted

Total volume of code authored. High variance week-over-week may indicate major refactors or cleanup sprints.

### Time to First Review

Average time between when the engineer opens a PR and when they receive the first review comment. If consistently long, it may indicate review bottlenecks for that engineer’s work.

### PRs Reviewed

Number of PRs the engineer reviewed (not authored). A measure of cross-team collaboration and review bandwidth contribution.

### PRs Opened / PRs Assigned

- **PRs Opened** — code the engineer shipped
- **PRs Assigned** — code the engineer was assigned to review or own

## Activity Timeline

A day-by-day waterfall chart showing commits, PR opens, reviews, and merges. Useful for spotting:

- Uneven work distribution (all activity on one day)
- Periods of low output (vacation, sprint context switches)
- Collaboration bursts (e.g., lots of reviews near end of sprint)

## Commit Contribution & Review Collaboration

Two bar charts side by side:

- **Commit Contribution** — which repositories this engineer contributed code to, and how much
- **Review Collaboration** — which other engineers they reviewed most often, visualizing who they collaborate with closely

## Why It Matters

Individual performance data helps managers:

- Make fair, data-backed decisions in performance reviews
- Identify engineers who are carrying disproportionate review load
- Spot patterns in delivery (e.g., habitually large PRs) before they become issues
- Recognize high performers who consistently deliver fast, quality work

## Pro Tips

- **Use the AI Insight button before every 1:1** — it generates a fresh summary based on the current date range you’ve selected.
- **Compare two engineers side by side** using the multi-select filter at the top.
- **Pair with PR Cycle Time page** to dig deeper into which specific PRs are outliers.
- **Check Coding Days over time** — low Coding Days relative to the team average can surface early blockers worth discussing.
- **Don’t over-index on Lines Added/Deleted** — high volume doesn’t always equal high impact. Use it alongside cycle time and review participation.

## Troubleshooting

| Issue | Fix |

| Missing data for an engineer | Make sure they are added as a team member in Settings |
| No PRs found for the selected period | Widen the date range or confirm their GitHub handle is linked correctly |
| AI Insight shows generic text | Select a longer time window — e.g., 30 days — for richer analysis |
| Efficiency Score missing | This appears after sufficient data is available; check back after a few weeks of activity |
| Review counts seem low | This reflects code reviews the engineer performed, not Optibot automated reviews |
